In lndia, an inter-caste marriage is difficult, let alone an inter-state marriage. Just a little unfair, I think. But, nope I am not here to point fingers at the Indian culture. Let’s stick to book reviewing. 😀
2 States is the true story of our author Chetan Bhagat. It is the story of Krish from Punjab and Ananya from Chennai. They meet in college, and fall in love. Post college, they want to take their relationship to the next level. And both families are introduced to each other on graduation day. Thus, begins the roller coaster ride.
It begins with Krish trying to be accepted by her parents, followed by Ananya’s attempt to be accepted by his parents. If you think the story is over, you need to know Indians a little more. Everybody has an opinion – from you parents to relatives to neighbors and even the house-maid. And unfortunately, when things are not in your favor, everybody’s opinion suddenly seems to matter to your parents!! They strongly believe in marriage being a union of two families and not two individuals. And so it was important for Krish and Ananya to get both families to accept each other.
It was no less than a war. A hilarious ride and had me falling off the chair laughing more than once. Just the story most of us go through. It gets a 3.5/5.
